This year I made two vids for my recipient CherryIce. As with last year, I matched on a particular source and then chose something different from my recipient's request list, which meant I had to watch all of BBC's Planet Earth before I started. As a result I only just made it in a couple of days before the deadline, and then decided to vid what I had matched on as well, for a treat. Happily, with some ruthless pruning of the song, I was able to finish that in time as well.

Vid one - Love Will Always Win/Planet Earth

I just had to pick this as my assignment because the source was so visually stunning. The hard part was choosing what to focus on, but as I watched my way through the source what struck me was the irrepressible spirit that nature has, always bouncing back, trees growing again after brutal winters or bush fires, little ducks flinging themselves off of cliffs to follow their parents to food. The song choice came easily after that, though I was a little concerned that choosing a New Zealand band would give my identity away.

Vid two - Superstar/The Muppets

This was my original assignment match. It's the most specific request I've ever fulfilled, but I really wanted to use this song and it was so perfect for a Miss Piggy video. At first I was worried I wouldn't have enough source, but with all the web content available and the new show that's just screened, I had just enough. Piggy, you are so awesome :o)

Dear Festividder,

Hooray, we matched on something, so I already know you are a person of impeccable taste :) Before I ramble on a bit about my requests, I just want to say that I am so excited you are making me a vid of my very own, and that fact alone guarantees I will love it. So please vid what is in your heart and have fun doing it. When it comes to music I am open to most genres except thrash metal, opera, and country. If you're looking for specific preferences, then have a listen to "She Says" by Howie Day, "Start A Riot" by The Rescues, and "Down" by Matt Kearney for an idea of what I love best, but really I am fine with anything indie, pop, rock, electronic, 80's, even rap. I love discovering new music and the most important thing is that it works for the vid.

If you're after specific direction about the fandoms I've chosen, then the following... probably won't be a lot of help. It's mostly me rambling about why I've chosen that particular source, but hopefully that's of some use. Just know that I love all the fandoms I've chosen, and if you vid any one of them it'll make me super happy. Oh, and I love treats, so if you're not assigned to me but something here captures your imagination, please don't hold back! :)

So without further ado, the requests:

The Flight Of The Conchords )

Game On )

MacGyver )

So, dear Festividder, there you have it. I hope you have fun, and I can't wait to see what you come up with. Thank you!

 Hello, dear Festividder!

Thank you so much for signing up to make a video. I couldn't be more delighted, so relax, the rest is easy :o) Whatever you make, I will love. I've provided some thoughts and suggestions (and some cases just general rambling) in case you're after some inspiration or prompting, but feel free to ignore all of it and vid whatever feels right to you.

In regards to song choice - I'm pretty open to most genres, so I'm not going to make any specific song requests, but I do have a few things I prefer to avoid. I'm not particularly fond of country, opera or metal. Other than that, you're pretty safe.

And now, to the fandoms:

Don't Trust The B**** In Apartment 23 )

The Flight Of The Conchords )

Game On )

MacGyver )

Morganville: The Series )

Paul Soares Jr Minecraft Let's Plays )

Twister )

Two Guys, A Girl, And A Pizza Place )

So there you have it, eight equally-loved fandoms to choose from, and one already-happy recipient :o) Please, above all else, have lots of fun, vid what feels right, and Happy Festivids!

Dear Festividder,

If you are half as excited as I am right now, then you are very excited indeed! Firstly, I want to thank you for signing up and for making me a vid. Regardless of anything I say beyond this point, please know that whatever you make, I will love! Sometimes the best vids are the ones you didn't know you wanted… so please feel free to ignore my suggestions and make the vid of your heart. However, if you're stuck for inspiration, hopefully the following will help.

But before we get to that - a word about musical selection: I'm pretty open to most genres, so I'm not going to make any specific song requests, but I do have a few things I prefer to avoid. I'm not particularly fond of country, opera or metal. Other than that, you're pretty safe.

Fandoms in alphabetical order:

Don't Trust The B**** In Apartment 23 )

Duran Duran (The Music Videos Of) )

Flight Of The Conchords )

Game On )

James Bond Movies )

Paul Soares Jr Minecraft Let's Plays )

Spiceworld: The Movie )

Two Guys, A Girl, And A Pizza Place )

So there you have it, dear Festividder. I hope that, above all, you have fun making my vid. Thank you so very much!

Rec me!

OMG, guys, I am soooooo bored of the music on my iPhone. Gareth used to spend a lot of time browsing through MP3 sites, discovering new sounds, but I don't have that kind of spare time, and I don't listen to the radio, so I hardly ever hear anything new.

So, dear friends, please rec me something awesome. I don't really like country, rap, or metal. My favourite stuff in usually pop/rock, and most of my playlist seems to fall under "indie" in iTunes.

Examples of things I am listening to right now:

Ceasefire by Howie Day http://youtu.be/ciOCAqKafss
Mountain Sound by Of Monsters & Men http://youtu.be/0gEVaniPOmU
Man On The Moon by Phillip Phillips http://www.last.fm/music/Phillip+Phillips/_/Man+on+the+Moon
Paradise by Coldplay
http://youtu.be/1G4isv_Fylg
Tourist by Athlete http://youtu.be/o4NRN_7_2Dg

If you've been listening to something similar, let me know! I'm desperate for fresh listening material.

Dear Festividder,

Thank you for signing up! I'm so grateful that you are willing to devote time and energy to making me a vid. Please have fun and know that I will love whatever you make.

Im not going to specify any particular songs. One of the great joys of watching vids is discovering new music :0) I have genre preferences, in that I don't really enjoy country, opera, or thrash metal, but pretty much everything else is fair game. Choose what you feel in your heart works best for the vid.

My fandom requests contain vague thoughts about theme, which are intended to be helpful prompts but can be completely ignored if you wish. As with the music, follow your heart and make the vid that feels right.

My requests, in alphabetical order )
That about covers it! Best wishes, dear Festividder. Once again, thank you, and have fun.

Okay, seriously. I should say this on my Facebook page, but will probably alienate half the people on there, since I'm talking about a good chunk of them. THINK, PEOPLE, before re-posting all this inane drivel! (Disclaimer - I don't mean funny pictures, those are great, I mean the stupid "repost this if..." comments.) Check if it's a hoax. Don't fill my timeline with disturbing pictures, and inane statements, assuming that posting some lame paragraph on Facebook is going to make a difference in the world. It isn't. You're not helping anyone by announcing for 60 minutes that you know someone who has/had cancer. If you want to make a real difference, go volunteer at the Cancer Society, or donate something to Hospice. Stop being so blinkered and gullible.

And for the love of God, the next person that posts the "drug companies have known how to cure cancer for years, but don't want to because it's such a growth industry" thing is going to get the biggest cyber-smackdown ever. Do they even stop to think about how that makes anyone who is battling cancer feel? Or how it makes me feel, having seen my husband die the cruelest, most inhumane death?

UNLIKE. Fuckers.

This post bought to you by several months of pent-up rage, and three glasses of wine.

The fic has moved. It now lives at http://www.littleheavenfic.dbfandom.com/Home.html

The vids will remain where they are, although shortly they'll get a facelift.

 Goodness, I'm posting!

I've not been doing much that's worth posting about, to be honest. Definitely nothing fandom-y, anyway, unless you count recently embarking on a rewatch of ST Voyager (the person responsible knows who she is!).

But last week I suddenly decided my website needed a makeover. Currently my site houses both my fanfic and fanvids. Problem is, I occasionally want to direct RL friends toward the vids but don't want them stumbling across Angel/Cordy PWPs in the process. So I'm splitting the content into 2 sites. More people are likely to have links to the vids these days, so that part will keep the current URL, and the fic will get a new home.

Dissatisfied with the current ugly, generic Rapidweaver theme (which is still 100 times better than the REALLY ugly site I once made in FrontPage), I decided to finally shell out a bit of money and buy a professionally designed theme, some plugins and stock photography for the slideshow banner. So far I've only done the landing pages but I am SO happy with them. It looks all grown up'n'shit! Watch this space.

I've also pondered blogging about my recent epiphany surrounding certain beauty products. After a lifetime of no skin problems, I developed perioral dermatitis last December and have not been able to get rid of it, which led to a crusade to eliminate chemicals from my skin and hair are, and my makeup. Because I have so much extra time on my hands. *snort*

Vidders, would anyone be willing to beta my Club Vivid premiere in about a week? Be warned, video source is Duran Duran :0)

I was dressing my little guy for bed tonight. Robots on his jammies, and aliens on his underwear. He said, "Pretend we're having a fight, and you're the alien and I'm the robot - let's see who would win." And I had to cover my mouth and giggle because I was instantly transported back to the whole "Astronauts vs Cavemen" argument on Angel.

For the record, the robot won, because he was the robot, and he always has to win.

Today was the great Festivids reveal. I can now thank, by name, the wonderful vidders who made gifts for me:

[personal profile] giandujakiss who made my wonderful Quantum Leap vid, Coming Home.
[livejournal.com profile] valika56  who made the epic Stargate video, Fight With Us.

And I can now reveal the two vids I made! Both are for Red Dwarf, and the recipient was [personal profile] laurashapiro, who wanted a vid that looked at the more serious aspects of the show and went deeply into character. So I made the complete opposite of that, LOL, with:

Better Dead Than Smeg
When you're the last human alive, you find friendship in unusual places.

Then I tried again and got halfway there, until the vid ran away with me at the midway point, and turned into Lister/Rimmer slashiness instead:

Given, Not Won
When all's been said and done, the things that are given, not won, are the things that you want.

Download and streaming of these and many others at my site :o)

And OMG you guys, I was such a lucky girl this year! My festividders did a GREAT job.

Firstly, I got a  kick-ass Stargate (the movie) vid, which is like a huge, intense, wonderful movie trailer. How hard must it have been to vid to an instrumental? The pacing and musicality is incredible and the end is just basically one big goosebump-fest. See the awesome here: http://fv-poster.dreamwidth.org/91197.html

Secondly, someone made me a treat! *\O/* It's the Quantum Leap vid of my HEART and I have all these FEELINGS about it that I can't adequately express because all I can do is flail and cry in equal amounts. It's achingly beautiful and wonderfully edited. Go sniffle over Sam's epic journey here: http://fv-poster.dreamwidth.org/103993.html

I can't wait for reveals so I can ask my lovely festividders if they have great big .avi files of these that I can download and treasure forever.

LJ friends, if you find I've suddenly unfriended you, it's because you also post at Dreamwidth and I am cutting down on reading duplicate posts across both journals.

As promised, I've ditched my LJ paid account and paid up with Dreamwidth instead. *\O/*

Honestly, I posted one unlocked post at LJ the other day and it's already been inundated with spam. I'm just sick of it. My extra LJ userpics run out in a couple of weeks, and the whole paid account in December, so I finally took the plunge. I've paid for the DW account, imported my icons, and deleted all bar 6 back at LJ. I've also started uploading my old-skool Cordy mood theme, which I made myself back in the day when I had time to do such things. Fingers crossed it works!

So from now on, posting at DW and crossposting to LJ, and monitoring friends lists on both.
