Dear Festividder,

Hooray, we matched on something, so I already know you are a person of impeccable taste :) Before I ramble on a bit about my requests, I just want to say that I am so excited you are making me a vid of my very own, and that fact alone guarantees I will love it. So please vid what is in your heart and have fun doing it. When it comes to music I am open to most genres except thrash metal, opera, and country. If you're looking for specific preferences, then have a listen to "She Says" by Howie Day, "Start A Riot" by The Rescues, and "Down" by Matt Kearney for an idea of what I love best, but really I am fine with anything indie, pop, rock, electronic, 80's, even rap. I love discovering new music and the most important thing is that it works for the vid.

If you're after specific direction about the fandoms I've chosen, then the following... probably won't be a lot of help. It's mostly me rambling about why I've chosen that particular source, but hopefully that's of some use. Just know that I love all the fandoms I've chosen, and if you vid any one of them it'll make me super happy. Oh, and I love treats, so if you're not assigned to me but something here captures your imagination, please don't hold back! :)

So without further ado, the requests:

As a New Zealander, this show has a wee special space in my heart. These guys are so typically, deadpan-ly Kiwi, and it's really funny to see that in an international setting. Plus I love me a good bromance. Brett and Jemaine are the heart of this show, but I also love a comical team vid, so if you want to throw in Murray and the other characters as well, it's all good.
The British seem to have mastered ensemble cast comedies - shows like Blackadder and Red Dwarf - that rely on just a few characters and a banging script. Game On is one of those shows. Hilariously inappropriate, especially as a lot of the gags are either about sex, or poor Matt the agoraphobic who can't leave the flat, and will do almost anything to keep himself amused. As someone who was once almost housebound with the same condition, I find this particularly funny in a twisted kind of way. Unfortunately they changed the actor for Matt after season one, so if you vid this, you can't really do the whole show. Either vid the Ben Chaplain eps or the Neil Stuke ones. I would be equally happy with either, but to mix them would be a bit weird, I think.
Another British ensemble comedy in the same vein as Game On; I just discovered it on Netflix this year. I love comedy vids and I love team vids, and this show lends itself particularly well to both. Something cheerful and slapsticky would be great.
It's not often a show I've been truly fannish about fits into the "small fandom" category but MacGyver is one of them. I had the biggest crush on this show and on Richard Dean Anderson in my teens. I loved that he was clever and geeky and cool all at once. Early on he was kind of James Bond-y as well, minus the gun. I would really love a vid of Mac getting out of dangerous situations with his clever improvised gadgets.
Morganville Vampires is a young adult book series by Rachel Caine, who is a friend of mine. In 2014 she ran a Kickstarter to make a web series of the first book, Glass Houses. It's just six ten-minute episodes, so this is a super safety fandom. All the action squished into one viddable package. With bonus Amber Benson and Robert Picardo. Rachel named the lead character after me, so part of my reason for requesting this is the surreal experience of seeing "myself" vidded. A YouTube search should bring up the footage, on the Geek & Sundry channel.
A couple of years ago my son asked me if he could install a Minecraft mod pack called Twilight Forest. I had no idea what it was, so while home sick from work that week I Googled it and stumbled upon Paul Soares Jr's Man vs Minecraft series, one season of which used that mod pack. Before I knew it I had been watching for hours, and an obsession was born. It turned out that Paul was the original Minecraft "let's play" guy; he published the first YouTube tutorial for it and launched himself a career as a YouTuber in the process. He's known for being the ultimate survivor (his fans are called Soarvivors) due to his ability to get through super-hostile maps without his character dying. One such map is Spellbound Caves, a fiendishly hard "complete the monument" challenge. He played it on ultra-hardcore mode, which means death finishes your game, no re-spawning. It is the most riveting, tense Minecraft playthrough I have ever watched, and a vid of it would thrill me to bits. The url for the playlist on YouTube is here.
We Kiwis love our cricket. It's our main summer sport. Historically we're not always very good at it. I think we hold the world record for the lowest test match score ever. We went into this year's Cricket World Cup ranked about 5th, and proceeded to dismantle some of the greatest teams in the world to... almost win. We made it to the final, and even though we lost that, the journey was epic. I'd love a vid that lets me relive those awesome moments. There is plenty of footage on YouTube of the games concerned.
I've requested this show in every Festivids I've signed up for (all bar the first one), but so far without luck. The difference now is that it is finally available on DVD, so I'm hoping my chances have gone up as a result :) This show is one of my very favorite American sitcoms, and I think it was seriously underrated. Not only was it super funny, but it starred Ryan Reynolds and Nathan Fillion as very young men, before they got really famous. As I've mentioned, I am a sucker for both a bromance and a team vid, and this show gives you both options. It's another fandom you can't go wrong with.
So, dear Festividder, there you have it. I hope you have fun, and I can't wait to see what you come up with. Thank you!
