Just been watching the pre-Isabel evacuation on the News (yes, it made the headlines here in New Zealand!). They are asking people who won't evacuate to write their names on their forearms to make body identification easier! Lovely...
The possibly second-lowest depression (960 hectopascals) on the globe is currently hovering off the south coast of New Zealand. Castle Point recorded a gust of 159kmph at 5pm today, similar speeds to those that Isabel is currently packing. Trucks have been blown off the road, roofs lifted, and some guy had to tie his farm dog down to stop it blowing away (seriously!).
Aah, I love the weather. So fascinating!
For anyone who likes cool pictures of major stuff like hurricanes, I can recommend a visit to www.earthobservatory.nasa.gov - go to the natural hazards page for some amazing pictures taken from the International Space Station. There's a guy up there who seems to be a very keen photographer :o)
BTW, still sick :o( And still no thunderstorms, although it's bloody windy here - I wobbled all over the lane on the Harbour Bridge today. Not nice, being up that high, over water, in a howling cross-wind! We're experiencing the equinoxial gales, apparently.
