Notes: A strobing cut right at the beginning, and flashing lights as they appear in the source.

It's been just over 11 years since I made a BTVS vid, and going back was quite a challenge because I wanted to watch the whole show again, which I really didn't have enough time to do! The song came easily and Faith was only in 15 episodes that were within the eligible timeframe, so I left it quite late to start, and then had a last-minute panic when I realised that while my song was upbeat, a lot of Faith's story was not. I did worry that I would run out of footage that was suitable for the tone of the vid. Thankfully there was just enough.

I love receiving vids and I love these fandoms, so whatever you choose to do, please know it will make me super happy.

Music: I like all kinds of music, except metal, country and opera. I particularly like 80’s pop and alternative pop and rock from the 90’s to today, but above all I like it when the music suits the source, so go with your gut.

Vid preferences: There are a few things I prefer to avoid - I don’t like anything super gory or realistically gory, and I cannot deal with puke at all. If you need a gore tolerance indicator: I can deal with 95% of The 100 but Game Of Thrones was a bridge too far :) As far as editing preferences go, I dislike talky-face (where you can see the characters are talking) because it throws me right out of the narrative of the vid. A few frames is fine, but other than that I find it quite distracting.

I have very few specific requirements, and please take all of my general suggestions with a very large grain of salt and vid whatever truly speaks to you, because that's what makes the best vids - passion.

When it comes to music I am open to most genres except thrash metal, opera, and country. I'd probably classify my taste as indie pop/rock, but the most important thing is that the song works for the video, so use that as your main music-picking criteria. I love discovering new songs.

Festivids 2015 Revealed

This year I made two vids for my recipient CherryIce. As with last year, I matched on a particular source and then chose something different from my recipient's request list, which meant I had to watch all of BBC's Planet Earth before I started. As a result I only just made it in a couple of days before the deadline, and then decided to vid what I had matched on as well, for a treat. Happily, with some ruthless pruning of the song, I was able to finish that in time as well.

Vid one - Love Will Always Win/Planet Earth

I just had to pick this as my assignment because the source was so visually stunning. The hard part was choosing what to focus on, but as I watched my way through the source what struck me was the irrepressible spirit that nature has, always bouncing back, trees growing again after brutal winters or bush fires, little ducks flinging themselves off of cliffs to follow their parents to food. The song choice came easily after that, though I was a little concerned that choosing a New Zealand band would give my identity away.

Vid two - Superstar/The Muppets

This was my original assignment match. It's the most specific request I've ever fulfilled, but I really wanted to use this song and it was so perfect for a Miss Piggy video. At first I was worried I wouldn't have enough source, but with all the web content available and the new show that's just screened, I had just enough. Piggy, you are so awesome :o)

OMG, guys, I am soooooo bored of the music on my iPhone. Gareth used to spend a lot of time browsing through MP3 sites, discovering new sounds, but I don't have that kind of spare time, and I don't listen to the radio, so I hardly ever hear anything new.

Okay, seriously. I should say this on my Facebook page, but will probably alienate half the people on there, since I'm talking about a good chunk of them. THINK, PEOPLE, before re-posting all this inane drivel! (Disclaimer - I don't mean funny pictures, those are great, I mean the stupid "repost this if..." comments.) Check if it's a hoax. Don't fill my timeline with disturbing pictures, and inane statements, assuming that posting some lame paragraph on Facebook is going to make a difference in the world. It isn't. You're not helping anyone by announcing for 60 minutes that you know someone who has/had cancer. If you want to make a real difference, go volunteer at the Cancer Society, or donate something to Hospice. Stop being so blinkered and gullible.

And for the love of God, the next person that posts the "drug companies have known how to cure cancer for years, but don't want to because it's such a growth industry" thing is going to get the biggest cyber-smackdown ever. Do they even stop to think about how that makes anyone who is battling cancer feel? Or how it makes me feel, having seen my husband die the cruelest, most inhumane death?

UNLIKE. Fuckers.

Goodness, I'm posting!

I've not been doing much that's worth posting about, to be honest. Definitely nothing fandom-y, anyway, unless you count recently embarking on a rewatch of ST Voyager (the person responsible knows who she is!).

But last week I suddenly decided my website needed a makeover. Currently my site houses both my fanfic and fanvids. Problem is, I occasionally want to direct RL friends toward the vids but don't want them stumbling across Angel/Cordy PWPs in the process. So I'm splitting the content into 2 sites. More people are likely to have links to the vids these days, so that part will keep the current URL, and the fic will get a new home.

Dissatisfied with the current ugly, generic Rapidweaver theme (which is still 100 times better than the REALLY ugly site I once made in FrontPage), I decided to finally shell out a bit of money and buy a professionally designed theme, some plugins and stock photography for the slideshow banner. So far I've only done the landing pages but I am SO happy with them. It looks all grown up'n'shit! Watch this space.

I've also pondered blogging about my recent epiphany surrounding certain beauty products. After a lifetime of no skin problems, I developed perioral dermatitis last December and have not been able to get rid of it, which led to a crusade to eliminate chemicals from my skin and hair are, and my makeup. Because I have so much extra time on my hands. *snort*

I was dressing my little guy for bed tonight. Robots on his jammies, and aliens on his underwear. He said, "Pretend we're having a fight, and you're the alien and I'm the robot - let's see who would win." And I had to cover my mouth and giggle because I was instantly transported back to the whole "Astronauts vs Cavemen" argument on Angel.

For the record, the robot won, because he was the robot, and he always has to win.

And I can now reveal the two vids I made! Both are for Red Dwarf, and the recipient was laurashapiro, who wanted a vid that looked at the more serious aspects of the show and went deeply into character. So I made the complete opposite of that, LOL, with:

And OMG you guys, I was such a lucky girl this year! My festividders did a GREAT job.

Firstly, I got a kick-ass Stargate (the movie) vid, which is like a huge, intense, wonderful movie trailer. How hard must it have been to vid to an instrumental?
