Okay, so hubby has formatted his pc to clear off all the junk. Now he cannot find half the discs that came with it to reload vital programmes, like Norton Antivirus
My question is... I connect to the internet via a broadband modem. I am running Norton Internet Security (antivirus and firewall) and I have also applied the windows firewall to my internet connection in my "Network Connections" section of the control panel. I have two other PC's that are networked to mine via a network switch. One is hubby's. I have also firewalled the Local Area Connection which is how they connect to me, using the windows firewall option. We found hubby an old Norton's Antivirus 2002, that I bought for our first computer, and loaded it up. All is running smoothly, virus definitions are updated. But is he firewalled? Does my firewall on the shared internet connection protect his computer? Or is he in grave danger of being compromised up his back port? ;o)
Thanks in advance for sage advice :o)

Date: 2006-02-01 06:54 pm (UTC)Thanks so much for the link. As far as I know, we only have the one ISP account, therefore should have only the one IP, so he should be safe. I might get him to enable the windows firewall anyway. But he will need to take it off when he's gaming with my PC. We've tried setting the permissions but they never work LOL. We have to turn off the 'net and take down all the firewalls every time :headdesk:

Date: 2006-02-01 10:56 pm (UTC)Easiest way to check is http://www.whatismyip.com. I found that I had some trouble if I tried to run any firewall other than Windows. I had Sygate for a while, but whenever I switched it on, Jo couldn't get online from her comp at all, no matter how often I fiddled with permissions. Stoopid technology rules.
I think about you, too. In an entirley appropriate way! :) We've been talking about trying to get our asses to NZ late this year or early next year for a holiday. I told Jo I'd cry if we didn't stop and visit you along the way!
