My husband, who has spent many, many years bitching in my ear about his computer, has finally cracked and bought a Mac. And not just any Mac. It's the brand new Mac Pro. It's got 8 cores, for goodness sake. I think the combined processor power of his one is 22GB. I believe he has 500GB of hard drive space (or is it 1TB?) and a staggering 6GB of ram. Plus a 30" display.
If I ever hear him complain about his computer again, I'm going to throw him out the window.
On the bright side, he's agreed to sell a bunch of stuff that is cluttering up the house. Our two old Dimension 8300's (one of which I am using at the moment), his Dell 30" monitor, his accoustic drum kit (a lovely Pearl sunburst) and some surplus-to-requirements Taylor Made golf clubs.
And on the even brighter side, I get his current computer. It's a Dell XPS quad-core monster, with 2GB of ram and 500gb of hard drive. Currently it's not running very well (hence the husband's meltdown) but I think that's due to him fiddling around with software and accidentally deleting some vital .dll files. I'm going to rebuild it and start from scratch. *dances*
So, if any of my NZ friends reads this and wants to buy a fairly grunty desktop (3.2GHz processor, 1GB ram, 320GB hard drive, 17" LCD and brand new ASUS lightscribe DVD burner) for under $1000, let me know. It'll be ready in a few weeks.

Date: 2008-01-21 07:33 am (UTC)I actually already listed the monitor on TradeMe. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=137065202 I've got a buy now on there of $2000. I think someone's going to come over and view it in the next day or two, but if you want it just grab it. I wouldn't lie to you - it's in as new condition, just like when it came out of the box. It's just over 4 months old. No dead pixels. Looks spectacular. You do need a decently grunty graphics card to run it, though.
