Hubby and I are always seeing "famous people" when we're out and about. And by that I mean lookalikes. I saw David Caruso in the supermarket carpark and the Dalai Lama walking past the local football field just the other week. Hubby is always saying "I saw *insert hollywood superstar's name* today."

So when he arrived at his golf club to play a round, he was amused to see Karl Urban and Sanath Jayasuriya just about to tee off. As is common practice on weekdays, where booking a tee time is not required, hubby went over to "Sanath" and asked if he could join them. "Sanath" said, "Sure, hi, I'm Nevin," and shook his hand. Then hubby introduced himself to "Karl," who said, "Hi, I'm Karl." ROFL.

And so it came to pass that my husband played 18 holes with a Sanath Jayasuriya lookalike, and Karl Urban of The Bourne Supremacy, The Chronicles Of Riddick, Lord Of The Rings, and the yet-to-be released Star Trek movie.

Ironically, people tell hubby on a regular basis that he looks like Jim Carrey...

Gareth could have at least asked Karl to remove his shirt. Please let him know I'm quite put out.

I believe it's against club dress code, or he would have ;o)

I have to agree with Katy. That was totally unacceptable behavior on your hubby's part.

Oh, how I love me some KU.

I know Karl from Xena: Warrior Princess. lol. "Cesear. Julius Cesear."

That's awesome, Claire.

This could be the world's stupidest question, but does Karl have a Kiwi accent? He usually uses Mid-Western American on Xena so I've never heard anything else.

Yes, he has a very normal Kiwi accent, apparently. I did wonder if it had changed at all from spending time in the US, but I guess if he's been home for a while (writers' strike) then the original one would have popped back pretty easily.

I saw an interview, very briefly on YouTube, where John Barrowman turns out to be American, living and working in the UK for the last fifteen years, and his Yank accent was mostly in tact.

I don't think you ever really lose it.

Except if you're Rick Springfield.

sounds like the interview was cut slightly as JB is Scottish. Born there, but moved to the US for some time before moving back. Whenever he's on the phone to his mum or talking to a Scottish interviewer out comes the accent. check out the UK version of the view for some of this delicious accent.

I am a long time Karl fan and your entry came up on my Karl google alerts. :) Your husband is one lucky guy but knowing most men probably thought nothing of it. :) Good to see Karl having some fun.

Yeah, I don't think hubby quite appreciated it the way some of us ladies might have ;O) But he was kind of buzzed that one of his celebrity sightings turned out to be real.

There's this comedian, Ross Noble, who likes to spot celebrity faces in muffins. I don't think he's ever really going to meet Dick Chaney in a bakery though...

My husband and I play this game too. We have a little speech: "Will Smith, ladies and gentlemen. Will Smith." "Bono, ladies and gentlemen. Bono."

My husband looks like Lewis Black or William Petersen, depending on beard growth and posture, and it's funny.

That is so cool! And at least he's got photographic evidence of the sighting.

Lol, I found this through Google Alerts, too! Thanks for sharing! (I know the folks at [livejournal.com profile] karl_daily would love it if you wanted to post there.)

Mind if I link to your entry from my LJ?

Hubby's had an attack of the shys, and doesn't want me posting the pic anywhere else. I think he feels bad that he imposed on Karl for a photo during his recreation time, and doesn't want it plastered all over the net. But you're most welcome to link from your LJ :o)

What a great story!

My hubby plays golf. I've told him if he ever bumps into Karl he's to invite him back for tea :-)

(Highly unlikely since we live on the other side of the globe, but a girl can dream!)
