Vidding meme
Mar. 28th, 2008 11:32 amTagged by half the vidders on my f-list. Tagging any of them that haven't already done this.
1.) When did you first start vidding?
At the end of 2004.
2) What would you say was your inspiration or motivation to start doing it?
I saw one! And since I'd dabbled in video editing before, with home movies, the idea really appealed to me. Also because I am so passionate about music, and to mix my fandom with songs that invoked strong feelings seemed like such a natural thing to do.
3) What do you or have you vidded?
I've done Angel, Buffy, Firefly and Stargate SG-1. I did try to do one to The Lake House (movie) but it just died on me.
4) Where do you draw your inspiration from for vids? Is it the song? An idea? Someone else?
Usually it's hearing a song that makes me see images from a particular show as I'm listening. The visuals just start flashing up in my head. I often get inspired by seeing really good vids - not so much ideas, but just the passion to be creative.
5) What was your favorite video to make or do?
Of my old ones, Drift Away, because it came together so easily. Lately, Flagpole Sitta, because it just fit the song so well and seeing all that Daniel whumping over and over just made me love him all the more.
6) What was your least favorite video to make or do?
What If I Came Knocking (sorry Kel!) because it was a real struggle to find my headspace with that one. I had lots of angst and frustration trying to pull it together.
7) Which video are you most proud of?
Either Flagpole Sitta or Fallen. Fallen was my first attempt at using more effects, but also I felt that's when my vidding got better through all the lessons I'd learned from the previous vids.
8) What's the best feedback or comment you've ever gotten?
obsessive24 did a fantastic job of beta'ing Flagpole Sitta for me. I really learned so much, and the vid is so much better as a result of her input.
9) What is your opinion on clip theft?
I think it's rude and lazy, but often it's just the result of ignorance. Whole vid theft annoys me more. Though I'm so under the radar it's never happened to me personally, to my knowledge!
10) Favorite genre to vid to (comedy, angst, romance, drama, AU)?
I seem to end up doing a lot of comedy, which I think reflects my personality. Angst is just too exhausting.
11) Favorite pairing(s)?
Angel/Cordy.
12) What just drives you up the wall when it comes to vidding?
Clip research. The prep takes me forever. So long, in fact, that sometimes I lose impetus before I get to the editing stage. Also, the idea that every vid has to have a deep meaning. Sometimes it's just about the pretty.
13) Is vidding a pastime, hobby or something to help gain experience to do more later in life?
A hobby, perhaps more of an obsession. One I wish I had more time to devote to.
14) What is your latest project or idea for your next vid if your muse isn't dead?
Well, I might not get to do another for a while. Being a working Mum is busy! But I am clip researching a particular movie vid that I won't mention so I don't look lame when I have to abandon it!
15) Finally, what kind of words of wisdom would you offer someone who wants to vid/ is a newbie?
It's time consuming and expensive, but very rewarding. Make sure you have the tools to create your own source, and if you're at all serious, invest in a decent vidding software. Take the time to view some really good vids. Read tutorials - there's loads online. Like fanfic, I think there are some basic concepts that are good to take on board. Avoid stray frames, talky-face (one of my pet peeves), and massive long clips. Get a beta. Don't give up. Have fun.
