List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're not any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now, shaping your spring. Post these instructions in your LJ along with your 7 songs. Then tag 7 other people to see what they're listening to.
Note: It' not spring here, so we'll say they're shaping my autumn instead...
1. Playing With Uranium - Duran Duran.
I thought I should catch up with some of their more obscure material ahead of the concert, and went in search of the only album I don't have, Pop Trash. On it I found this little gem. Far and away my favourite song right now. Trashy keyboards and a strong, melodic chorus with Simon's distinct (if rather nasal) vocals.
2. Falling Down - Duran Duran.
Yes, I know, another Duran song. Off the new album. With Justin Timberlake on backing vocals. Which is funny since he wasn't even born when Duran Duran was formed. I'm a bit of a sucker for the tempo ballads. This is one of the few new songs of theirs which still sounds like the Duran of old.
3. Brooke Fraser - Shadowfeet.
This one's been on my playlist for a while. She's a New Zealand artist. When her first single, Better, came out, I emailed her to say how much I liked it and she emailed me back. It's a sweet, aching melody, and makes me feel all Sarah McLachlan-y.
4. Numbness For Sound - Howie Day.
I've had his album Stop All The World Now for a couple of years and it still feels fresh to me. Love the way he incorporates strings into his acoustic pop/rock pieces, to the point it almost sounds orchestral. Especially in this one, with the huge, sweeping crescendo into the instrumental.
5. Keane - Nothing In My Way.
It was a toss-up between this and Somewhere Only We Know, but I think I've overplayed the latter now. I adore piano-based pop/rock (Howie, Gavin de Graw, The Fray) and this song is eminently singable. Usually I find Keane a bit insipid, but this is the exception.
6. Maybe - Opshop.
Another Kiwi act. The lead singer Jason Kerrison almost made it into the finals of Rock Star: Supernova. Good, guitar-driven rock, melodic chorus and almost anthemic ending.
7. Sooner Or Later - Breaking Benjamin.
Despite the prevalence of pop on my list, I do love me a bit of grungy guitar rock from time to time. The only thing is, it has to have a good melody. I like these guys because a lot of their stuff has really catchy hooks. This one is great for screaming along to in the car.
