Why I hate The Wiggles

Okay, I don't hate them.  I think they're pretty dire, but Griffin loves them, so I deal.  But something really annoys me.  They're possibly the richest entertainers in Australia, and yet they still churn out the same naff, low-production-value rubbish they always have.  Surely ABC would have given them a bigger budget when they became globally famous?  But I guess, if they can make that much money without any increased outlay, then why spend more?

On the other hand, Imagination Movers on Playhouse Disney is far superior.  Musically they are more talented, and they homage a huge range of musical styles.  Everything from Beach Boys to Devo to Blink 182.  They rap, they sing pretty ballads.  And they have a cool warehouse with lots of interesting rooms.  And a running joke where Dave always misses the high five.  Did you know that three of them lost their homes to Hurricane Katrina?  I'd feel so much happier paying my $20 for a Movers DVD than a Wiggles one.  But alas, there are none available here.

I can't believe it.  I'm a parent for less than two years, and I'm reduced to ranting about children's rock bands.  I think the Movers are my new fandom.

I guess that's true of many industries, not just TV. The advertising budgets of companies like Coke and Pepsi must be enormous. Disney probably spend way more on a wee kid's show than most people would consider reasonable, but I know I feel better paying for a quality product than I do buying something that looks like it's been shot on the neighbour's handycam in the garden shed, LOL.

Sesame Street rocks. The Henson puppets cross age barriers, I think. We have quite a few Elmo's World DVD's and Griffin loves them to bits. He calls him Mammoo.
