Burn advice
May. 25th, 2009 10:53 pmAny nurses on my list?
tenaya ? My little sis just rang to say she burned her finger on a frying pan. She was holding it too far up the handle and the knuckle on her finger came in contact with the hot metal. It's gone white and waxy-looking, which the internet says is third degree. It's about an inch long but only about a fifth of an inch at the widest point. She put it in very cold water for as long as she could stand (a couple of minutes), then dressed it with clean gauze. My question - does she need to seek medical attention for it? If she doesn't see a doctor, will her finger fall off?

Date: 2009-05-25 06:05 pm (UTC)I got several burns that looked like you describe, and I spent the next ten hours keeping my hand in ice-cold water, non-stop. After that, it had completely stopped hurting. I had huge blisters for at least a week, though.
