Where did that week go?
Jul. 6th, 2003 10:34 amI've been a busy little bee. Playing taxi for my carless husband (who is thankfully now in a loaner from a friend), looking after my little furry charges, the rats, working, keeping house...
By the way, I LOVE MY CAR. My catchphrase for the week. I've only found a couple of little things about it that aren't completely perfect. No light in the boot! Discovered while trying to get my groceries out in the freezing cold and dark. I'm going to get a tap-light to solve that one. And no rear window wiper. I'm told that sedans don't often have them (I've always had hatches before). I miss it, but I still love my car!!
We had the coolest thunderstorm on Friday night. It was short but very spectacular - big double forks streaking across the sky, right overhead, and hail too. We don't often get either in Auckland, so I stood at the window going "woohoo" for the entire half-hour. I love thunderstorms.
I'm a bit nervous because I have to take two of my rats for surgery on Thursday. Ella has what looks like a haematoma on her ear, but since it's started getting bigger, the vet thinks it's a tumour. And Abby has a mammary tumour. In rats these are normally benign, but he can feel a thick cord running from it to her armpit, which isn't great news. It could just be fat, or maybe a blood supply, but it could be malignant. He's going to go agressive and try to remove the lot - said you only get one chance to do these things right - but if it returns she's basically stuffed. Poor, sweet, gentle Abby. I was a bit tearful when I got home from the consultation yesterday. I have to drop them in Thursday morning. I will be a wreck all day at work, but I'd rather be there where I have things to occupy my mind! My vet is really good, he's anaesthetised 5 of my rats previously with good results, so I have to trust him to do a good job with my babies. And he gives me staff discount! (I am a regular visitor...)
Auckland is having a cold snap right now - it was down near freezing last night. Not common for a narrow piece of land warmed by sea on both sides. I was even chilly with the heater on. The southerly wind was coming straight off the antarctic, I swear it.
I am hoping for some free time this week so I can start writing a new fic. I've been tossing a few ideas around in my head, and I really like this one. I usually watch the episodes immediately before and after the timeframe I set the fic in, to get everyone's POV right for that time in the show. So today I'm breaking out the DVD's! What better than an Angel-athon to keep a girl warm on a cold winter's day? Hee hee.
