The grossness that is open wounds...

I put Ella and Abby back in the big cage with their friends tonight, and some little toady has chewed Abby's stitches. Luckily I noticed before they opened the wound completely, but there's oozing blood and it's all quite icky. I put a bunch of antibiotic cream on it (that was a fairly unpleasant experience!) and have separated her from the rest of the gang, poor bubba.
Ella's ear has gone black on the bit of skin that holds the outside of her ear together. I guess there's no blood supply to that bit anymore, so it'll die off. In one way it's good, because if it falls away, she won't end up hooking her ear on anything and ripping it open later. But I just keep thinking "gangreen" and it's freaking me out. Thank God our vet is open on Sundays!
Oh, and I love my car. Just thought I'd add that for good measure.
Went to a Kiwiana party on Friday night. Kiwiana is the word used to describe things quintessentially New Zealand, like hokey-pokey ice-cream (which is French Vanilla with butterscotch chunks in it), L&P (a lemon fizzy drink), pavlova dessert, the wooden "buzzy bee" toy, and things in general which have played a big part in our culture. I ended up singing karaoke on more than one occasion over the course of the evening. Did "I See Red" by Split Enz, NZ's greatest band, and then "Sway" by Bic Runga (which was on the first "American Pie" movie soundtrack). Also won myself a Hyundai web-enabled mobile phone, in a $2 raffle! So I was quite chuffed with the whole evening. Even got a hug from the big big big boss, who said "Claire, you're always a star". Who knew singing Split Enz in a sunhat and sarong was a good career move?
