Hey, btw, I'm gonna be official ratsitter over the holidays :). I'm really looking forward to it - they're so darn cute. Although one of them bites on occasion, so I'll stay away from that one. Those are some sharp teeth!
It's rare for rats to be aggressive biters - it could be that this one's been fed treats through the bars of the cage. Their eyesight is poor, so it might think you're food coming towards it! But keep your fingers clear of its mouth - a rat bite can go right down to the bone, they've got strong jaws. On the bright side, it's a dry bite - no saliva in it like a dog or cat bite.
Enjoy you're little charges. They're endlessly fascinating to watch (except during the middle of the day, when they sleep...).
