or do The Killers sound a LOT like Duran Duran? Especially Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine. That twangy bass and the very Nick Rhodes-esque swirling keyboards over the top of everything. Now I feel old.

No, they definitely do. That sound is retro now!

I saw Duran Duran on a chat show last night. Nick Rhodes looks like he could be the dad of Interpol, and they sounded like they were imitating the Killers imitating them, so it was odd. Basically they were trying to ride the wave of those who were influenced by them.

John Taylor is still sexy, though. Yum.

How scary is that? The stuff I was into as a teenager is cool again. Maybe I should dig out my leg warmers...

Hahaha, yeah, the've all got a bit jowly (especially Simon) but John seems to have weathered quite well. He's been living a very clean and healthy life since he went through rehab.

I really like their new album, Astronaut. I'm glad they got back together, because it meant I got to see them live for the first time, after 19 years of waiting. Obviously they've run out of money *g* The cool thing is that Astronaut sounds a lot like it could have been released back then, it's so true to their original sound. There's a track called Finest Hour which is just so them that it brings tears to my eyes.

Seriously. You'd be, like, way cool! The 80s retro is rather... amusing. Like the ponytails. A lot of people who were born in the mid to late are dressing 80s influenced, and it makes me giggle.

I was still a kid in the 80s, so it's not as freaky for me to see that retro movement. However, I was always musically aware and inclined to follow movements, even before I went to school (I know, I know), so it's still funny to me. Once the 90s come back, I will totally flip. I don't think I could handle that since that would be my teens.

I've never dug Le Bon, but before he was just sleazy. Now he is unappetizing sleaze. Gosh, I'm so mean! Nick Rhodes still has the style, but it looks ridiculous on him now, even if people dress like that again. But yeah, John has weathered very well. I was always a John Taylor girl, even as a toddler. lol

Obviously they've run out of money.

Jonathan Ross mentioned that, but they totally denied. Whatever! It's true! Have they hit your part of the world yet, or are they coming soon? I haven't heard the album yet, but I've been meaning to check it out. Honestly, they reformed at the right time since they are retro-cool and there are bands out there who are clearly influenced by them, like The Killers and Elephant. I should check out the latest album. I listened to Come Undone earlier on mp3, actually.

I'd whip out the vinyl, but it's in California. And I don't have a needle. Dude, now I'm getting all nostalgic!

LOL, I freaked when the 70's came back, even though I was a kid then. You still won't get me into an A-line skirt. No way. But I caved on the flares...

I've met Simon about 5 times, and he was a complete wanker on every occasion. John was always my favourite. I found all my posters the other day. Gah, the hair! Close up he's got a lazy eye and pidgeon toes. But still. Yum.

I've got a couple of tracks from the new album that you can check out. Go to http://www.littleheaven70.com/av to dld Sunrise and What Happens Tomorrow if you like. There's some really good dance stuff on the album as well, but I haven't uploaded anything else because I want people to support the band and buy the album :o)

Did you see them on Letterman, Claire?

If so, I saw the same a few nights ago. I'd never heard of them vut I sat listening as I couldn't place who they reminded me of. At first I thought there was something Split Enzish about them, even the Tim Finn movements *and* I thought they must have been some Australian band from the way it was sung. Anyway, taped the thing half way through in case hubby recognised the song - *he* says they remind him of Tears for Fears!

I like the sound though.

Nope, missed them on Letterman, but hubby heard them on the radio and bought the CD. Dependant on which song you're listening to, they also sound a bit like The Cure. It's that whole 80's Brit pop/rock vibe. The use of really retro sounding synths and the vocals even sound Brit - they don't sound American but they are.

It's the sort of music that makes me drive too fast when I put it in the car stereo *g*

Yep, I went looking for info on them the next day. Letterman commented that he thought they had just arrived from Australia! I thought Brandon Flowers may have been born here, but nope. I heard 'Somebody Told Me' and I've since heard snippets of their other songs on the net. I was reminded of The Cure too.

They spent a couple of years working in the UK, maybe that has influenced their style.

Good stuff at any rate.

Yeah, I love finding new bands! Went through a long phase where nothing appealed.

I thoroughly recommend Kiwi bands Eight and OpShop, if you can get them over there.

I think the singing voice actually sounds like that "middle" voice people are trained in; not quite British, not quite American, not quite any accent. There are some singers who sing in American accents (Jenny Lewis of Rilo Kiley, Stephen Malkmus) and British accents (Cerys of Catatonia, Damon from Blur), but a lot hit the middle.

Anyway! There is a band from New York that sound like that retro sound you like called Elefant. I thnk they have more of a British vocal style. Elefant - Love: it sounds like the midpoint between The Killers and Interpol (give Interpol - Public Pervert a go if you feel like it).

I don't know if you know either band. Interpol have a cult following in the US and UK with very obsessive fans. I really like them. Elefant are a lot smaller. Just right-click, save-as!

I think it's the style of singing more than the accents that makes the sound British. I can't explain exactly what it is.

I will dld those songs and tell you what I think. Thank you!
