Now, let me be the first to admit I usually shy away from AU music vids, because I've seen plenty that just don't work. I mean, it's not easy to take clips from a show and manipulate them to tell a completely different story. Especially when your viewers know the show so well that they can pick which ep each clip is from and know exactly what context it was originally used in. That's why these two vids blew my little cotton socks off. The first one is Cordy/Spike, the second Buffy/Faith. Both brilliantly done, both convincing. Both rather large files, but well worth the download. Watch, be awed, and send feedback to the vidders. Heaven knows, they deserve it for these amazing vids!

Ooh, hey, this house of slash is happily downloading the Buffy/Faith vid. Thanks for the tip-off!

So, what did you think? I liked the "sex kitten" inference *g*

Nicely, nicely done! That's one of the best fanvids I've ever seen, from a technical standpoint. And I think the lyrics were used really well - we weren't hit over the head with direct comparisons. It pushed the story forward. Jo and I are both unashamed Faith-lusters, so we were happy about that, too. :)

I think one of the biggest downfalls of fanvids is that they often include long shots where we see characters saying something we can't hear. I know a lot of the potential source material has to be taken from coversations, but it's never a good move to use it for long shots. This vid skipped that nicely, except for one shot that glared out at me, and served to show how good the rest was. Big thumbs up from me! I'll try the Cordy/Spike one now. Hee!

Oh, yeah, I get really bugged by "talking heads" in vids. It only goes to accentuate the fact that the footage is being used out of its original context. I like a music vid to look like the footage was made for that vid, not for some other reason. In fact, I think in Fallen I've got virtually no shots where anyone's mouth is moving - I just don't consider talky shots as viable clips, if I can help it. I don't think they make interesting viewing, in any case, because generally with dialogue scenes there's not much else happening.

Anyhoo, if you enjoyed that one, I think you'll love the Cordy/Spike one. Damn clever. It's my fave of the moment.

And if you want to see something really clever, check out my favourite video of all time at www.deadbutstillpretty.com - Move Your Feet - an episodic of Once More With Feeling. Buffy Abridged at that site is also excellent. Both are a bit different from standard fare, which I like.
